Keep area covered and dry for the first 24 hours.
The wound should be uncovered and washed with soap and water day following surgery.
After washing, apply Vaseline or Aquaphor to the area daily until scab heals or sutures are removed.
Avoid applying alcohol or hydrogen peroxide, as these inhibit healing.
Normal wound healing will include a small amount of redness around the site. Since wounds heal better in a moist environment, thick scabs should not be allowed to form. The base of an open biopsy may have a white, fibrous material. This is normal and does not indicate infection.
Signs of infection include, but are not limited to: large areas of redness and pain around the surgical site, copious amounts of draining pus, warmth and swelling around treated area.
