What is Restylane®/ Perlane®?
As we age, our skin loses hyaluronic acid, a natural sugar that plumps the skin for a youthful appearance. For patients who wish to restore this lost hyaluronic acid with little downtime, Restylane® or Perlane® may be able to help.
Dr. Baird was very prompt, professional and understanding. I love this office and will continue to use them. The staff was nice and professional.”
Who is a Candidate For Restylane®/ Perlane®?
Patients with deep perioral lines and wrinkles can often benefit from these injections. Restylane® and Perlane® can also lessen the appearance of some scars. Patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not undergo these dermal filler treatments. A consultation is the best way to determine if you are a good candidate for this procedure.

How to Prevent Perioral Lines and Wrinkles
While genetics and natural aging play a role, there are several ways to help slow severe facial wrinkles and folds. Protecting your skin from sun damage with daily SPF use, avoiding smoking, and staying hydrated can help preserve natural hyaluronic acid levels in the skin. Using medical-grade skincare products with antioxidants and retinoids can also improve elasticity and support smoother skin.
Reasons for Restylane®/Perlane®
Because these hyaluronic acid fillers are made from a natural substance found in the body, Restylane® and Perlane® are highly effective in restoring lost volume while maintaining a natural look and feel. Restylane® can also be used for lip enhancement, while Perlane® is often chosen for deeper wrinkles and nasolabial folds.
Before Your Hyaluronic Acid Fillers
Before beginning Restylane injections, patients will meet with Dr. Baird to discuss their goals, medical history, and the best approach for treatment. To ensure safety and reduce risks, patients should disclose any history of severe allergies, allergic reactions, bleeding disorders, or use of blood-thinning medications or certain drugs, as these may affect healing at the injection site.
Patients should also avoid alcohol and aspirin in the two weeks leading up to treatment to minimize bruising, bleeding, and swelling. On the day of your appointment, the treatment area will be numbed, and the filler will be carefully injected using an ultrafine needle for patient comfort. Following the procedure, mild redness, tenderness, or itching may occur, but most patients resume normal activities right away.
How is Treatment Done?
During treatment, a topical anesthetic can be applied to the treatment area for ensured comfort. The filler product will then be injected under the skin for immediate results. There is little to no downtime associated with Restylane® and Perlane® injections, and most patients return to their everyday activities directly after.
Recovery After Restylane®/Perlane® Treatment
Following treatment, patients often experience bruising, redness, swelling, and tenderness at the injection site. These side-effects are usually mild and will lessen within 24 hours. Ice can also be used to minimize redness. Patients can expect results from Restylane® to last about six months, while Perlane® is known to last a bit longer.
